Have you ever WONDERED what the FUTURE of our cities would look like if CHILDREN were in charge?
Disco School is a project made to inspire and engage communities around the world, to move away from a nostalgic past and turn to a new vision of the city’s future. The project provides inclusive platforms to mediate community engagement with children, teachers, creatives and local governments in the re-imagining of their towns future. Using speculative and future design practices as a participatory tool, the project supports and teaches children to engage with socio-cultural issues from a critical perspective and imagine the future of their city (i.e. new transport systems, new laws, new ways to tackle homelessness) while giving them a space to express their hopes and dreams.
Disco School is a project that encourages children to take on the role of designers, entrepreneurs, and active citizens, imagining and co-creating the future of their city.
The aim of the project is to foster key skills in children and stimulate their interest in community life from an early age by addressing two main challenges: (1.) the challenge of urban revitalisation and the lack of involvement of citizens and minority groups in such planning; and (2.) the lack of programmes encouraging children’s participation, creativity, entrepreneurship and critical thinking, as well as teaching them about leadership and active citizenship.
